Chapter Six: Bia

Switch hadn’t been talking to me too much, and I really didn’t know why. I would have assumed it was because of the mess that went down with Cody and Qamar, but he’d been okay after that. It was just during the past week, he’d been distant, and wasn’t begging me to spend time with him like he usually did. I only cared because I needed him at the moment. I needed him to pay for a few more things until I graduated and got the job with my mother’s friend. I’d already started my classes, and since this was the last year I needed, it wouldn’t be long before I could end things with Switch.

Getting out of my car, I saw my sister was calling my phone, so I hit ignore. That little bitch thought she could say anything to me and then pretend like shit was cool? Nope. I was taking the Draylah approach and ignoring her ass until she got some sense.

I made it up to Switch’s large front door, and rang the doorbell. No one came for a long while, so I rang it again just as I heard the locks being twisted. Cody pulled the door open, and he gave me a half smile before stepping back to let me in. I saw he still had the bruise from fighting Qamar, which was funny because Qamar still had his marks too. Had it not been at my job, and about me, the fight would have been good entertainment since both men could hold their own against one another.

“Hey, is everything okay?” I frowned, but chuckled to lighten the mood. The house was quiet, and usually, Switch always had some Motown oldies playing.

“Umm, yeah, I guess. How are you?”

“I’m fine, thank you. Hey, I’m sorry about what went down at Bordeaux and thanks for not mentioning what was said to Switch. My friend is a little—”

“Mental?” Cody chuckled.

“I mean, he can be hot and cold sometimes, but he’s okay,” I half lied. Qamar seemed to be off in the head, but I didn’t want to believe it. A part of me still liked him, and had hope that we could maybe become something. By saying that, I didn’t want him to be mentally ill. I just wished he were having a rough phase; something he could get over.

“Nah, that nigga is mental.” Cody pulled his iPhone from his pocket, and went to YouTube. I watched him type in Qamar’s name, along with some other keywords, and when the video he was looking for came up, he tapped it.

The video displayed Qamar, who was apparently on Instagram live or something, and he was talking and looking crazy as hell. I didn’t even recognize him, and because I was embarrassed to keep watching, I palmed the front of Cody’s phone and pushed it downward. He got the hint and clicked off of the video.

“He just plays like that.” I giggled breathily.

“Right.” Cody nodded. “So I have to ask, did you come here for me or for my father? I’m hoping it’s the former.
